What is DEVJOBS?

DEVJOBS is an Internet service that announces thousands of international development jobs each week. It is an Internet resource that links both development employers and employees. DEVJOBS is also an informal network of development professionals; currently, we are reaching more than 82,000 people worldwide.

DEVJOBS is the first and premium international job announcement service; designed for announcing (and getting informed about) jobs related to microfinance, poverty alleviation, community development, institution development, governance, health care, population, food security, agriculture, education, human resource development, disability rehabilitation, natural resource management, information technology, and rural development. DEVJOBS is the most active and provides the largest amount of job announcements in these fields. As a job announcement service, it links employees (jobseekers) to employers.

What are benefits to employers?

DEVJOBS creates real benefits to employers. The main benefit to employers is that they get quick, easy and wide advertising in the Internet of their needs for workers at an unbelievable low price. Our fees are affordable to all kinds of development organizations.

Usually, employers pay thousands of dollars to post job announcements in global newspapers.

But with DEVJOBS, an employer or a recruiter can reach out to thousands of development professionals at a small fraction of the costs usually involved. Another advantage is the ease of use.

Employers may post ads anytime, from anywhere. More than 400 large and well-known NGOs and international consulting firms have become customers and regular users of DEVJOBS. Click here to see a partial listing of our customers.

They attest that they are able to reach a wide audience of people in the development field, across the world.

An employer can reach a huge global audience of more than 82,000 people cheaply, in just afew clicks. See details of this outreach below. And best of all, it cost almost nothing.

Lastly, we try to give customers a personalized service.

How much fees should an employer pay ?

For our basic regular advertising service, employers are asked to pay the usual advertising fee which is Fifteen US dollars (US$ 15.00) per job per posting day.

A job ad with one position that is announced once will be billed US$15.00 only.

If an ad contains two job positions, for example a Project Manager and a Agriculturist positions, then we count that two ads and billed $30 (calculated as $15 x 2). We count the number of job positions in an ad not really the number of ads.

If a employer/customer wants the same ad (with 2 job positions) run for 3 days spread over a 2 week period, we charge that $90 (calculated as $15 x 2 positions x 3 days).

This is a special low-cost fee, designed for NGOs and development agencies.

What else are included? Read below.

First, even though the job ad is announced in a day's issue, for example September 27, the job ad actually stays in our website for a period of nearly 60 days, which the viewers can all see. So, even though it is an ad for one day, your exposure is really nearly 60-days.

Second, we shall distribute your job ad via email to all people belonging to our mailing list - now around 30,000 people.

Third, we place your ad in our online jobs archives for 60 months for record purposes only (this is useful for billing and verification purposes too).

How many times should I run my ad ?

As stated above, even though your job ad is announced in a day's issue, for example September 21, your ad actually stays in our website for a period of nearly 60 days, which the all viewers can all see and could open. So, even though it is an ad for one day (15 dollars fee), your exposure is really nearly 60-days.

But there is a little problem about this. As time goes on, the job ad gradually loses visibility because the viewers tend to click on the latest job listings or issues and tend not to open or view the earlier or older issues.

For example, viewers who come in mid-October will tend to open the issues for October 11, 13, 15 and 17, and he will tend not to open the issues for September. In short, as time elapses, the job ad loses visibility, even though it is still there in the website for them to click open and see.

To counteract this, many recruiters and employers ask us to run the ad for 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 days and spread it over a period of 2 or 3 or 4 weeks, to maximize the visibility of the ad.
Of course, if you run it 3 times, that will cost a bit more (45 dollars). It depends on how much budget you have for running the ad. Usually, it is enough to run it 6 times over a period of 3 weeks. This seems to be the best solution for many recruiters, based on our own six year experience.

How many people can an employer reach?

Using our basic regular service, an employer or a recruiter can reach more than 82,000 development professionals worldwide.

Latest statistics Based on latest data provided by Webalyzer (a professional website tracking program), this DEVJOBS website is being visited by 52,000 people each month. The number of members in the DEVJOBS mailing list is 30,000 people , hence total circulation is more than 82,000. Also, our website gets 210,000 pageviews per month. These figures are as of October-15-2006.

DEVJOBS is able to achieve high exposure through effective use of emails and websites.

All job postings submitted to DEVJOBS, when approved by the Editor, are included in our website.

Furthermore, we also post the job ads in this DEVJOBS website where it stays for almost 60 days, then we place your ad in our online jobs archives for a period of 60 months without any cost on your part. This service is a real value-for-money !!

There are a five basic conditions that we ask employers to follow. Job ads are accepted by DEVJOBS if it complies with the following basic conditions (see box below:)

Condition # 2 . The job must be connected with related to microfinance, poverty alleviation, community development, institution development, governance, health care, population, food security, agriculture, education, human resource development, disability rehabilitation, natural resource management, information technology, and rural development. Condition # 4. The emplyer must send DEVJOBS an email or letter or fax stating that the organization (employer) is willing to pay the required fees and charges. The employer must also furnish the full name of the organization, address, phone, email address and contact person, which are needed for billing purposes. The employer may use our online confirmation form to submit this required confirmation.

Condition # 5     Job postings maybe refused if it does not meet our standards. DEVJOBS has the right NOT to accept and post information any ad which is: immoral or sexually-explicit or highly objectionable; ads solicitations of business, chain letters or pyramid schemes, franchises, "club membership", distributorship or sales represen-tative agency arrangement or other business arrangement which requires an up front or periodic payment, pays commissions only, and recruitment of other members, sub-distributors or sub-agents; "work-at-home" schemes; postings from hate groups or those espousing violence. DEVJOBS has the right to remove any mini-ad in the website which does not conform with the above rules and conditions. The fee, if any was paid, is not refundable. Why are advertising fees required?

The fees are needed to sustain this valuable service. DEVJOBS started as volunteer service in 1999 but it can not be sustained through volunteer efforts alone. We have to pay our staff, electric bills, computer maintenance, Internet bills, and all sort of operating expenses to keep this service running. Due to high costs of operations, we were forced to introduce some fees to help make DEVJOBS a viable and sustainable service. We receive no subsidy from any one or any organization, hence we need some revenues to keep up the service.

DEVJOBS is able to achieve high exposure through effective use of emails and website. We reach a global audience of more than 82,000 people.

How can an employer post an ad?

Employers simply send their job advertisement as plain text email to editor@devjobsmail.com Sending job ads through email file attachments is being discouraged because of so many malicious malware and viruses delivered through email attachments. Or better still, employers can post their job advertisements online using our "online job submission form"; simply click here to see how that form looks like.

Or click the Post a Job Ad link if you want to post an advertisement now.

How about payments ?

Employers need not pay in advance before posting their job ads. The bill will be sent to employers after 4 to 6 weeks. As stated above, we ask employers to send us a confirmation message before posting job ads. We need an email or fax confirmation saying that employer agrees to accept charges, and accepts our basic conditions. We also need to have the full name of the organization, office address, telephone number, fax, contact person and email address. This will be useful for billing purposes. We now accept credit card payments.

DEVJOBS accepts US dollars only as payment, usually in the form of checks drawn against US or international banks. The check should be made out to "DEVJOBS Information Service" or to "Carlos Ani".
