REPLY: Hello Ludo, congratulations. I am glad you found a new job. Good luck and good bye. DEVJOBS Team

Deadlines for applications

Hi Carlos and DEVJOBS Team, I am Jennifer, a subscriber to your list. Is it normal procedure for you to advertise jobs until they are filled. e.g. you advertise jobs past the deadline date?

REPLY: Hello Jennifer, We usually announce a job ad ONCE, and usually before the deadline. However, there are a few employers who request us (and pay) to repost the job ads until the deadline. We do not know whether a job is filled up or not because we have no access to that kind of information. Only the observe deadlines for send ing job applicationsemployers know.

Generally speaking, most jobs are not filled up as per stated deadline. Sometimes, it remains unfilled for a few more weeks. Hence, if one is really interested in a certain position, he/she can take the chance and submit his/her application to the employer. Who knows, you maybe the one the employer is waiting for! - Carlos

I shared your list with my friends

Dear DEVJOBS / Carlos, I just wanted to thank you for the great job you are doing. Your daily job postings have been a great help. Could you please include some of my friends on the dev jobs list. cheers - Andrea.

Entry-level positions

Dear DEVJOBS, I receive the weekly dev-jobs email and am always impressed by each edition's comprehensive listing. Having just graduated from Colby College -- B.A. in International Studies with a Development Concentration -- my job search is for *entry level* positions. Can you offer any advice? Thank you very much for your time. - Sarah B.

REPLY: We have some, but limited, postings on entry level jobs here at DEVJOBS. Your best bet is to do a search of the various web sites of large NGOs. Try Interaction.Org website. Here in DEVJOBS, we are thinking of providing "free posting" privileges to organizations that are looking for (unpaid) volunteers, interns, and other entry level jobs. But we have not yet been able to implement this policy consistently. - Carlos

Categorizing the jobs

From Kim: This is a wonderful ideacategorizing jobs and a great service you're providing, Carlos Ani. Just one (perhaps premature) suggestion: Is there a way of categorising the job messages/archives by country and by job type to make the job search simpler? - Kim

REPLY: Dear Kim, In our issues, we still have not formulated a new format separating countries or jobs. It is difficult to do so because there are hundreds of jobs comingto us from different countries from difeerent sources, and they usually come in long text listings. It will take us enormous amount of time and efforts to put such listings in a database. So we simply publish the job listings, without any filtering or sorting. We simply don't have the resources to create databases. remember that this is a free service, and therefore, we only have limited resources to support DEVJOBS' operational costs. Thanks for writing. - Carlos Ani

Citizenship issue

Dear Sirs, I would like to enquire if it`s possible to apply for a job on your site without European Union or United States citizenship? Best regards, Tomasz T.

REPLY: Most of the jobs listed in DEVJOBS are open to various nationalities. If there are no specific nationality requirement, then it means any one of any citizenship can apply. If a certain job is restricted to certain nationalities, the ad usually state that requirement quite clearly.

What development jobs should I apply for?

I have more of a question what kind of dev-jobs should I apply for? than a comment. I'm seeking advice. I'm graduating with my masters degree in urban planning/Regional and Intl. Development, I'm bilingual, I've interned for the UNDP, but when I read these vacancy ads, I STILL don't seem qualified for anything. Are there any sites you would suggest for entry level development professionals? Being that I am not specialized in any specific field (not a scientist, not a doctor, can't build things....) what kind of development job should I be seeking? ANY help, guidance, comments would be greatly appreciated. - Haily (The editor has replied to her privately)
