Looking for a job in Japan
MY COMMENTS: I am now back in
Japan
and am looking for a job related to development in Japan. I wonder
if DEVJOBS will ever be able to find anything in Japan. If not,
I would like to unsubscribe. Let me know. Thank you. Eiko
REPLY: Sorry but we seldom have jobs for Japan.
Search function
Hi Carlos, Is it not possible to ad a search function
to you archive list, and current postings list, whereby a
potential
applicant can search by keyword(s)? I'm a professional in the
Prepress/Printing trade, and would like to to teach at a school
in Indonesia, where I used to live; but it seems the only way
to browse the archives is to click on each individual date, which
is not really practical. David Green
REPLY: Dear David, Thanks for your comments. Several
members of DEVJOBS have also suggested this earlier. It sounds
simple but it is actually quite difficult to implement this because
it will require creating and maintaining an online database. We
are short of manpower and technical resources in order to maintain
such a large and highly dynamic database.
I appreciate your efforts
Dear Carlos and DEVJOBS Team,
Thank
you very much for your email and prompt action with the membership
of mine in devjobs. This is really a brilliant act of initiative
you all are doing to benefit us. I appreciate it very much and
hope to receive it regularly. With best regards, Naomi C.
REPLY: Hi Naomi, welcome, and thanks for your feedback.

How long should post a job ad?
Dear Carlos Ani, We are looking to post a job ad.
I am not sure how long we should keep this on the web, is one
posting
normal or would you recommend more? I will wait for your recommendation
and then formally confirm the details. Best regards, T. - (from
a London consulting firm)
REPLY: Hello, This is Carlos of DEVJOBS. I find
that employers do well if they announce their job over a period
of 3 weeks, with a posting of once per week. In that way, they
are able to get the largest number of applicants for the job.
Hence I recommend 3 postings of the same job ad, over a 3 week
period. If budget is an issue, then you can settle for 2 postings.
By the way, we keep your job ad in our website for a maximum period
of 60 days free of charge. (It stayes in our online archives for
another 4 - 5months). I found out that maximum exposure is through
emails (and we have almost thousands of development people now
receiving emails from DEVJOBS) and website ads. Our Internet audience
is around 70,000 people every month. Regards, Carlos
I found your service useful
Dear DEVJOBS, Thank you for sending me information
about international jobs available. I found it to be very useful.
I hope a lot of people subscribing find it worthwile also. Keep
up the good work. Thomas

International Job Openings
Dear Carlos Ani, Thank you for your interesting
joblist. Today I found one opening (Message No. 5) which was
not
open to international job seekers. In your other e-mail, you are
describing the rules of posting and it is not permitted to send
posting which is limited to citizens of one country. This poster
was not following your rules.
Thank you for your efforts to bring jobseekers and
employer together. Sincerely, Amie.
REPLY Hello Amie, thanks for your feedback and comments.
Almost
all jobs posted here are open to all nationalities.
But we also allow a few job ads that are restricted to certain
nationalities, provided the job ad itself states so at the top
portion of the ad. DEVJOBS has to modify this particular rule
somewhat because there are so many jobs with nationality restrictions.
The restrictions are impose mainly by donors and funders. The
employers have been requesting us to allow such ads. But relaxation
of this particular rule is offset by the large and wide diversity
of jobs that are not being announced in DEVJOBS. Hence international
job seekers can still choose the kind if jobs they like. Many
thanks for your feedback. - Carlos
Ads in the DEVJOBS website
Carlos, I was wondering if you have thought of taking
any ads on your site - we are a small organisation so far, but
would be
interested if it was affordable for us. Thanks once again for
the excellent work. Regards SC (from a consulting firm).
REPLY: Yes, DEVJOBS now allow ads in our website
to allow development organizations and consulting firms to have
greater space and ability to announce their jobs and their organization.
Organizations can announce
events such as seminars, conferences, etc. for a cheap
price. Also recently, DEVJOBS has become a member of the Google
Adsense network to allow more commercial adversting in the website.

No big graphics on DEVJOBS messages
Hi Carlos, I very much appreciate you work on this
list.
It is a GREAT resource. I have a question. I notice that you use
yahoo groups, but don't get big graphic advertisements at the
beginning of your messages. Have you done something special to
avoid these ads? We don't seem to be able to get rid of them on
our lists. Thanks, Kevin Murray, Grassroots International
REPLY Kevin, Maybe because we use only plain text
in our settings. There is a question there on whether your messages
will be in plain text or HTML. I chose plain text. Carlos
Website had poblems in May 2005
SHAHINA MALIK of India said: "I have
been trying to access the vacancies in your website since the
last few days, but there have been no postings after 9 May 2005,
or at least they are not showing on the site. Pls advise me.

said:
"Why is your job offer ends May 9 only on your website? When are
you going to update it? Your list goes up to May 9 only and we
are now May 16. When are you going to give us the latest job offers!
"
REPLY: This is due to failure of your
web browser to get our latest homepage. Simply click
on the "reload" button or refresh button
of your browser.
Peter Ottis said: "What happened with
your great web site? It doesn't show any posting after May 9.
I hope it's a temporary breakdown. Wishing you all the best in
your work! Peter
REPLY: Yes, we had some problems in
May 2005 when we failed to update our website in a prompt way.
These things usually happen a few times a year when we experience
massive power problems in the community where our DEVJOBS office
is located. Sorry for the inconvenience."
Thanks for your service
Carlos and the DEVJOBS Team, your service is a blessing
to many. I want to thank you and to encourage you to keep on.
You may never get to know how many people benefit from your work
but God will bless you mightily. Thanks, Emma
Repostings of jobs
Carlos, is each email a complete list?
For
example, would your email of Sept 12 include all postings in Sept
10 listings? Thanks for your emails. The jobs listings are quite
useful. - Jennifer
REPLY Hi Jennifer, No, generally, the latest listings
or issues of DEVJOBS do not carry old listings. But some or most
of the listing the previous days are carried forward, especially
long lists. For example, the September 12 issue does not contain
materials from previous issues, except those job ads which have
been requested to be re-posted by the employer, and those items
(usually long list of available jobs) which we repost for a couple
more days. All other items in previous issues are not carried.
Hence it is necessary to look back at the issues during the past
3 or 8 days. - Carlos
Archive of old postings of jobs
Carlos, I am a new member. Do you have an archive
of old
messages?
- Ben
REPLY Hi Ben, welcome to devjobs. If you want to
really look back at the old listings, we keep a
complete job archive for the past several
months only. Just click here
to go to the archives. Carlos

Great service
Dear Carlos and DEVJOBS Team, Great service, and
a big thank you for it. I have two feedback: 1. I like the text
only format. Keep it simple. Many workers in the field are using
old equipment and could not accommodate a program full of graphics.
2. On that note, posting organisations might want to strongly
consider that very
experienced people nearing the end of a current deployment may
well be in places where actual web surfing capacity, as well as
printing capacity, is nil to poor. I certainly have been in that
position. In these cases there is a server which barely manages
to up and download email, a few times a week and when the generator
is working, but no more. I know from past experience that it is
very frustrating trying to get information or make contacts with
only a web address. Even email addresses can be a problem if you
are getting Devjobs via your webmail on R and R and then going
back to the bush. A fax number , only for queries originating
in the field, would be useful. Thanks again. Karen
REPLY: Karen, Thanks for your feedback, which is
quite educating for us in the network with better Internet connections.
We will keep our basic DEVJOBS service in plain text email for
a long long time, for the benefit of members working in far flung
and less connected parts of the globe. But that will not keep
us from developing new products that are demanded by members who
have broadband or high speed Internet access. We have to serve
both kinds of members. Keep in touch. - Carlos
"Is there a devjobs list for Europe? "
Hello Carlos Ani, I am receiving your development
list for
quite
a while now. I figured out that a lot of the organizations that
look for personnel are located mainly in the UK and the US. I'm
from Germany and am wondering if you know of a similar list as
yours for Europe? Yours sincerely, Oliver H.
REPLY: Dear Oliver, There are currently no one that
I know that consolidates jobs for Europe. For UK and US, there
are a number of job compilers, and I give them free space here
in DEVJOBS. If I can find some job compilers (of Europe
jobs), then I will be glad to feature them also. Let me know if
you find anything
I like to temporarily leave the mailing list.
How?
Dear Carlos, I would like to let you know that,
temporarily, I no longer need to receive your devjobs emails anymore.
I will however sign up in the future once I need the service again.
For now, thank you very much for the great work you are doing.
It has been of great use! Ms. Everts
