We are seeking an Executive Director with a passion for coexistence to lead this growing organization. As CEO, with an existing annual budget of $450,000, the Director will work closely with the Board of Directors to implement the mission and goals of the organization.

 

Founded in 1998, THE COEXISTENCE INITIATIVE is a U.S.-based international non-profit organization that seeks to catalyze a global awareness of, and commitment to, creating a world safe for difference.  Working with like-minded individuals and organizations worldwide, we aim to mainstream awareness of coexistence, facilitate the exchange of information and best practice, enhance communication and cooperation between and among those within the field as well as those outside of it, and enshrine principles of coexistence in policy, curricula, and institutions. 

 

Our ideal candidate is someone who has a strong commitment to and passion for the field of coexistence, demonstrated by at least five years experience within the field of coexistence or a closely related field such as conflict resolution, conflict prevention, peace work or multiculturalism, and preferably as a senior manager.  S/he will have proven success in fundraising with extensive contacts within the international funding community, along with excellent verbal and written communications skills and the ability to speak to large groups.  As this is a small and relatively new organization, the ability to identify, create and pursue opportunities to catalyze action is essential.  We seek a social entrepreneur for coexistence.

 

Salary range between $70,000 and $85,000, medical benefits.

Workplace News: Are Women More Recession-Proof?

Women have scored another victory in the battle of the sexes:

They've   become more recession-proof than men.

 

For the third economic downturn in a row, the unemployment rate for   men is running higher than the women's rate--a flip-flop from the   months directly preceding the downturns, when men fared better. The   trend is a big change from the 1950s, '60s and '70s, when women had   higher jobless rates than men in both down and up times.

 

"Men's employment ... is much more responsive to economic downturns than women's," says Vicky Lovell of the Institute for Women's   Policy Research in Washington. That's because women tend to work in   professions, such as health care and education, that are still in   demand when times are tough.

 

If the trend continues, it could factor into household   decision-making, such as which person should take time off to take   care of an elderly parent or a sick child.
