ISLAMIC RELIEF

 

Established in 1984 in the UK, Islamic Relief is an international NGO seeking to promote sustainable economic and social development by working with local communities through relief and development programmes. We aim to help the needy regardless of race, religion or gender.

 

The main sectors we are involved in are: Education and Vocational Training, Health and Nutrition, Water and Sanitation, Income Generation, Emergency Relief, Disaster Preparedness, and Orphans Support.

 

Our core geographical areas of operation are : Albania, Bosnia & Hercegovina, Kosova (Central Europe), Azerbaijan and Chechnya (Central Asia), Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India and Pakistan (Western and South Asia), Gaza Strip (Palestinian Autonomous Area), Mali and Sudan (Africa) and the Middle East.

 

The majority of our funding is from private donations however we also receive support from institutions such as DFID, WFP and UNHCR.

 

Islamic Relief is an NGO in consultative status (category special) with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY

·        To line manage field offices from HQ to ensure the effective implementation of the Projects Division strategy.

·        To provide support and guidance to field offices.

·        To monitor, evaluate and report on field office projects.

·        To seek donor funding for projects and programmes.


CONTEXT OF WORK

The Projects and Field Offices Division is comprised of three main departments, development projects department and emergency and relief department and orphans department. The three departments are responsible to the Projects Division Manager.

The Development Projects Department at present contains four Regional Programme Managers who are responsible for the management of the following countries : Albania, Bosnia & Hercegovina, Kosova (Central Europe), Azerbaijan and Chechnya (Central Asia), Afghanistan,  Bangladesh, India and Pakistan - also AJK -  (South and Western Asia), Gaza Strip (Palestinian Autonomous Area), Mali and Sudan (Africa).

The managers are responsible for providing strategic direction for the offices and supporting them in terms of planning, designing, appraising, monitoring and evaluating. The RPM work closely with the Emergency and Relief Department and Orphans department when the situation arises. Liaising and networking with donor agencies in order to obtain project support is crucial to this position.

Due to the continually expanding workload and a vacancy arising due to one of the RPMs relocating abroad, the division is now looking for a dynamic, organised and motivated RPM to continue the growth within the projects division.

The ideal candidate will have degree level education; 5 years project management experience and be a strategic thinker. He/She must have a numerical mind and have good analytical and writing skills. Good interpersonal skills are essential.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.     To provide overall strategic direction to allocated field offices within Islamic Relief’s strategic parameters.

2.     Manage field offices through provision of  support and guidance in the areas of  programme planning, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

3.     Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the programmes and management systems being implemented in the field offices.

4.     To work as part of a team with other RPMs and other departments and divisions within Islamic Relief.

5.     Provide regular reports to senior management and donors when requested.

6.     Liaising and strengthening linkages with NGOs, institutional donors and government departments

7.     Develop new programmes and proposals which are focused towards institutional funding

8.     Undertake field visits to relevant field offices to evaluate activities (expected travel of 6-10 weeks a year)

9.     Provide support to Islamic Relief fundraising division

Unique opportunity for a community-minded individual to work as a member of the Asian American Federation Relief, Recovery, and Rebuilding Initiative, created to respond to Asian American community needs in the aftermath of September 11th.  The individual will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide immediate and intermediate services for individuals and families impacted by September 11th, including the families of direct victims, displaced and affected workers, the families of hate crime, bias, and detentions victims, and other emotionally affected community members.

 

Responsibilities:

§   Case manager and advocate for the families of direct victims and other affected clients;

§  Provision of emotional support and appropriate counseling and other referrals;

§  Assist community members to access various assistance related to September 11th;

§  Language translation and help-line counseling for affected community members;

§  Coordination with different relief programs, efforts, and community agencies;

§     Community outreach and education;

 

Requirements:

§     Fluency in Bengali strongly preferred, both spoken and written;

§  Undergraduate degree in a human services field preferred but not required;

§  One year of documented experience working in the Asian American community preferred;

§     Some counseling experience and/or training;

§     Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

§     Initiative, dedication, and flexibility;

§     Ability to work independently and in a team.

CMS Philippines Project: USAID/Philippines has recently requested CMS' assistance to expand the commercial sector's role in helping meet current and future demand for affordable, quality family planning products and services. To do this, CMS will work extensively with a variety of private/commercial groups including pharmaceutical companies, pharmaceutical distributors and retailers, private medical providers and their professional associations, and health insurance providers and associations. CMS will also work with select government departments and representatives.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: We are currently seeking a Resident Advisor who will be responsible for facilitating and managing all CMS activities and serve as the local representative of the project in the Philippines. Responsibilities include: * Working closely with CMS headquarters staff to help design project activities and be responsible for managing and coordinating project implementation activities for CMS initiatives in the Philippines. These activities will include working with pharmaceutical companies, commercial wholesalers and retailers, medical provider associations, and others to improve and expand commercial sector provision of contraceptives. * Coordinating research, assessment and evaluation activities of potential projects on behalf of CMS. * Monitoring CMS projects' activities including obtaining, organizing and reporting on projects' operational and financial status. * Representing the CMS Project as needed to all relevant organizations in the Philippines including USAID/Philippines.* Developing annual work plans and budgets.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Ideal candidate will possess: * 10 years experience in private sector pharmaceutical sales or marketing, health insurance, medical services or training marketing, international development, or philanthropic initiatives by commercial organizations.
