Title : Program Officer - Africa -

Status : Temporary position - 5 days/week - Replacing an employee on maternity leave Duration : December 2002 until the end of January 2004

Place of work: Montreal

Development and Peace is the Canadian Catholic Church's organization for international solidarity. We support community projects in more than 30 countries in the South and we carry out education and fundraising campaigns in Canada

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Team Leader and the Director, you will establish and maintain close relations with partners, national and international institutions and organizations in Africa. Your main responsibility will be to plan and manage programs in accordance with our strategic priorities and you will work in co-operation with other Program Officers for Africa. You will be in close contact with our sponsors.

Requirements

* University degree in Social Sciences or the equivalent

* Four years of pertinent experience in Africa and in Canada (3 in Africa and 1 in Canada)

* Thorough understanding and capable of analysing international development issues in Africa

* Excellent knowledge of CIDA's financing system

* Good experience of project management

* Fluent in French and English

* Autonomy, aptitude for team work and available to travel abroad

* Good knowledge of relevant computer programs

Working conditions

Salary and fringe benefits are based on the Collective Agreement.
