THE FIRM:

The Aries Group, Ltd. (see website at www.ariesgroup.com) is a US-based financial sector development consulting firm with four practice areas, namely 1) Capital Markets Development, 2) Banking and Bank Supervision, 3) Insurance and Pension Reform, and 4) Privatization of State-Owned Enterprises. 

THE POSITIONS:

We are presently seeking Mutual Fund Experts to staff an upcoming project in India.  These experts will be responsible for:

1.     Identifying policy impediments to the development of the mutual funds industry, and recommending measures to remove such impediments.

2.     Reviewing the existing corporate governance framework for the mutual funds industry in India, and making recommendations for reform, which are consistent with international standards and best practices.

3.     Examining the current legal form of mutual funds in India and recommending more efficient alternatives in light of the Indian setting and experiences in other jurisdictions.

4.     Defining disclosure norms for the industry specifying the form and extent of disclosure required and the required reports and suitable media, such as placement memorandums, investment performance reports to investors, major publications for NAVs.

5.     Defining uniform bases for determining NAVs, particularly how unlisted and inactive securities should be valued, how appropriate dividend policies should be formulated and implemented for various types of funds.

6.     Reviewing existing risk management systems in use by the industry and recommending measures to strengthen the present systems.

7.     Recommending performance indices, benchmarks, comparative indicators, and ways they can be established to make the comparison of relative performance of various funds easier.

8.     Recommending appropriate procedures for ensuring the transparency, propriety of transactions and deals by the various funds (due diligence, internal audit process, and procedures), and for setting up appropriate mechanisms for redressing investors' grievances.

9.     Reviewing the present investment/portfolio management systems of various funds and introducing measures that can enhance the systems and processes.

10. Reviewing the administration of investments/securities of various funds and recommending measures for strengthening the integrity of the current systems.

11. Drafting a handbook of standards of best practices for mutual funds operations.

12. Recommending measures to upgrade the professionalism of market participants.

13. Reviewing the functions and activities of the existing Association of Mutual Funds in India and recommending measures for enhancing its role as a self-regulatory organization.

14. Analyzing whether the entry of foreign fund managers into India's mutual fund industry as partners of local firms has improved industry practices, and whether there are any regulations or policies that limit foreign funds’ scope of operations and need to be changed.

15. Preparing a suitable study tour for key officials of the Government and the regulatory authorities.

16. Arranging for a conference/forum on the reform of the mutual funds industry.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The duration of the assignment will be 4-7 months.  Applicants must have an advanced university degree, a minimum of 15 years experience in the mutual fund industry, 5 of which must have been in the international arena and/or as a consultant.

The Center for History and New Media at George Mason University is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to serve as Project Historian for a major online project-Women, World History and the Web. This project will serve as a resource for high school and college teachers integrating primary sources on women in world history. This 18-month position will begin in fall 2003, pending final approval of funding.

- Proficient, creative, and resourceful in designing, planning, organizing and implementing training courses for infocom and media, and for resource centre services; as such, must have a solid background in participatory training methodologies;

- Computer literacy, including knowledge of use of the internet, e-Mail, and having website management skills,

- Strong analytical skills;

The Canada Research Chair in Feminist Political Economy in the School of Social Science, Atkinson Faculty, York University is pleased to announce a competition for a Postdoctoral Fellowship, tenable at York University for the 2003-2004 academic year.

REQUIREMENTS:

The Chair invites applications from scholars who have earned a doctorate in the Social Sciences and who have a research background in fields such as gender, race & work, work & society, labour studies, or political economy. The Fellow's research program will involve participating in the various projects directed by the Chair, such as the Gender and Work Database and the Community University Research Alliance on Contingent Work. Experience with both qualitative and quantitative research would be an asset, although not required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Fellow will teach a full-year undergraduate course on "Work and Society" (AK/SOSC 1740.06), a newly designed course that links research being conducted in connection to the CRC with the concentration in 'Work and the Workplace' in the interdisciplinary School of Social Science.

* Convenes working groups to prepare and review sections of the PPM.

* Edits new or revised sections of the PPM.

* Periodically reviews PPM in context of UNFPA's priorities and strategic direction.

* Ensures that the printed PPM is fully in agreement with the changes recommended with the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).

* Ensures that proper hyperlinks are available from ERP working screens to the "Authoritative PPM" site.

* Advanced University Degree in Social Sciences, Management or other appropriate  subject required.

* Fluency in English; French and/or Spanish are also highly desirable to review translations of Procedures and Policy Manual.

* Specialized knowledge in the field of Population and Development Programmes required.

***8) Project Director and Resident Legal and Judicial Reform Advisor / DPK Consulting / Bangladesh.

DESCRIPTION:

DPK Consulting seeks a Project Director and senior legal reform advisor to provide and manage reforms advisory consultancy services for a World bank-funded Legal and Judicial Capacity Building Project in Bangladesh.

REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates must have a law degree and be a member of the bar or bench and preferably have technical expertise in one of the following fields: case management, court administration, judicial training, or alternative dispute resolution.

Candidates should also have significant senior-level hands-on experience and expertise in designing and executing judicial and legal reform projects.  Project Director will oversee management of expatriate and local staff to provide advisory services and assistance necessary to facilitate implementation of reforms.

Project Director will coordinate closely with designated high-level local counterparts on project activities and maintain relations with The Bangladeshi Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and the World Bank and ensure project compliance within their regulations.  Technical assistance is required in the areas of court administration; case management; revision of procedural codes and rules; court management information system; implementation of a modern code of conduct and performance standards for judges and staff; conducting effective performance evaluations; judicial training; and improving access to justice, and the ideal candidate would have skills in one or more of these areas.

Prior rule of law project experience in region and development bank management experience preferred.  Familiarity with the Bangladesh judicial system a plus. Excellent English-language abilities required.

This is a full-time position requiring relocation to Bangladesh for a minimum of one year.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Global Fund for Women is accepting applications for a full-time Development Officer. The Development Officer is part of the Development and Communications team, under the supervision of the VP of Development and Communications. The Development Officer is responsible for fulfilling the Global Fund's goals, obligations, and roles with institutional donors and philanthropic networks. POSITION SALARY AND START DATE:

The Development Officer is a full-time position, beginning in early June 2003. The Development Officer is eligible for competitive full salary and benefits.

The American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) is an organization of 10,000 women physicians and medical students dedicated to serving as the unique voice for women's health and the advancement of women in medicine.

AMWA's national office, located in Alexandria, VA, has an immediate opening for a full time International Project Assistant for the Reproductive Health Initiative (RHI), a project dedicated to improving the reproductive health medical education and services in the US and internationally. The goal of the RHI International Project is to strengthen the capacity of medical schools, both domestically and abroad and to train students to provide comprehensive reproductive health care. The RHI International Project is currently working to increase international opportunities for medical students, establish collaborative projects, and to produce an international reproductive health education and training resources.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The RHI International Project Assistant will work with the International Project Associate to develop resources to improve international reproductive health education and training. Responsibilities will include:

• Provide research, administrative, and logistical support for all aspects of AMWA's international reproductive health project efforts.

• Assist in the coordination of efforts to increase medical schools' international education and training to improve reproductive health services in the U.S. and low-resource countries.

• Assist in the research and development of international opportunities for medical students and educators in fields relevant to reproductive health medical education.

• Initiate and maintain communication with medical schools and other organizations in the US and abroad.

• Assist in the development, editing, and distribution of international project resources such as promotional materials, correspondence, databases, and reports.

• Assists in maintaining and updating RHI's International Project web pages.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• BA or higher in Health, Public Health, Education, International Health, Social Science, or related field.

The Center of Concern seeks a motivated, self-directed individual to be Communications Coordinator for the Global Women's Project. The project advocates women's full realization of their human rights, with a particular emphasis on economic and social rights.
