Job description: Founded in 1961, AED is an independent, nonprofit organization committed to solving critical social problems in the U.S. and throughout the world through education, social marketing, research, training, policy analysis and innovative program design and management. Major areas of focus include health, education, youth development, and the environment.
AED’s Global Education Center (GEC) provides developing countries with a range of services to support the development of equitable and effective education systems. GEC currently manages projects in Africa, Asia, Central and Latin America and the Middle East, as well as global programs of policy analysis and technical and managerial support for improving access and quality in early childhood, primary and secondary education, and in non-formal education and workforce development, with a special emphasis on youth. Current programs and projects are funded by organizations such as the US Agency for International Development, the Asian Development Bank, and World Bank.
Qualifications and skills required: AED is searching for skilled and committed professionals with advanced degrees in education, economics, management or any of the social sciences, and with experience in developing countries, to join the expanding GEC program. Professional positions are available in AED’s Washington, D.C. headquarters and are expected in field projects. Also available is a wide range of both long and short-term international consulting opportunities.
Areas of professional competence of particular interest to AED include monitoring and evaluation, reading and mathematics instruction in the primary grades, secondary education teacher training and curriculum development, technology in education, workforce development, organizational development and multi-sectoral program and project design. Management experience in a multi-cultural environment is highly desirable, as are language skills in French, Spanish, Portuguese or Arabic.
