Christian Children’s Fund, an international, nonsectarian NGO that assists over four million children and families in over 30 countries, announces a position for a Child Protection Specialist to strengthen its global capacities on child protection and well-being and to contribute to its leadership on behalf of war-affected children. The Child Protection Specialist will be located at CCF headquarters in Richmond, Virginia (U. S.) and will spend approximately half time in the field, assisting and developing CCF’s internationally recognized child protection programs in countries such as Afghanistan, Angola, Sierra Leone, and Uganda.
Responsibilities:
The Child Protection Specialist will help to support, expand, and enrich CCF’s child protection programs, to build CCF capacities at all levels in regard to child protection, and to strengthen CCF’s global leadership on behalf of child protection. The Child Protection Specialist will work closely with Dr. Mike Wessells, the Senior Child Protection Specialist, and will report to and perform duties as assigned by the Vice-President of International Program.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Participating as a member of CCF’s emergency response team
- Conducting child-focused assessments in emergencies
- Assisting in program conceptualization and design
- Providing technical support and backstopping for CCF child protection
programs
- Assisting in hiring of consultants for child protection field
assignments
- Sharing lessons learned from CCF child protection programs across
emergencies and countries
- Building child protection capacities within CCF at all levels
- Supporting CCF’s research on documenting the impact of psychosocial
and child protection programs
- Representing CCF externally in regard to child protection at selected
meetings
- Supporting CCF’s advocacy regarding child protection
- Building partnerships with NGOs that strengthen collaborative
approaches to child protection
- Identifying relevant grant opportunities and assisting in proposal
preparation
- Building positive relations with donors and preparing donor reports
- Providing child protection training and capacity building for national
staff
Qualifications and skills required:
- Post-graduate degree in relevant field such as psychology or social work;
- Extensive international field experience in designing, implementing, evaluating, and supporting holistic, community-based, culturally grounded programs for assisting at-risk children and families;
- Relevant experience in child protection program development and advocacy;
- Technical competency in assisting at-risk children such as displaced children, orphans and separated children, former child soldiers, children who have a disability, street children, and children who have been abused sexually;
- Ability to develop agency-wide a holistic approach to child protection that integrates psychosocial dimensions and cuts across multiple sectors;
- Experience in participatory training and capacity building on child protection issues;
- Strong skills of organization, writing, and verbal communication in English;
- Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative approach;
- Experience in collaborating and negotiating with international child protection partners such as UNICEF, international NGOs, and donors;
- Strong support for children and youth participation and agency;
- Openness to learning about and using in programs selected local cultural resources and practices;
- Ability to communicate in non-English languages is a plus.

AFEW is an international, non-governmental, humanitarian, public health organisation which was founded in the Netherlands, and whose mission is to make a major contribution to the reduction of the impact of HIV/AIDS in the Newly Independent States (NIS) of the former Soviet Union.

Place within the Organisation:

Overall Job Objective:
To support the development, implementation, evaluation and promotion of effective treatment (including ARV) programmes for people living with HIV/AIDS, which are designed for and appropriate to the specific conditions of the NIS.
Description of Core Responsibilities and Tasks:
Related to Programme Development:
· To monitor the HIV/AIDS-related treatment needs in the region of the Newly Independent States (NIS)
· To propose and support relevant
exploratory missions in the various republics of the NIS in close collaboration
with the Regional Directors
· To translate identified
treatment needs into appropriate interventions, in line with the Strategic Plan
2005 – 2007 in close
cooperation with Regional Directors, and relevant colleague SPAs
· To develop AFEW programme
guidelines on HIV/AIDS treatment, including ARVs in line with WHO
recommendations and international good practice evidence-based protocols
· To identify potential resources
and (inter-) national partnerships on issues related to HIV/AIDS treatment
Related to Project Support:
· To support HIV/AIDS treatment projects with relevant technical advice on development, implementation and project monitoring & evaluation
· To contribute to the development and implementation of relevant trainings and IEC materials for project clients, including medical and non-medical staff
· To monitor project implementation in close cooperation with the M&E department and the Director of Programme Development and adapt / steer when necessary via ‘Binding Advice’ to the Project Manager
· To
be a member of AFEW’s Internal Review Group related to the production
of relevant printed materials for various client groups
· To
publish relevant articles for AFEW as well as to promote and supervise the
writing of publications by project staff

Governance and Legal Reform
A COP is needed for a USAID-funded MSI (www.msi-worldwide.com) governance and legal reform project to coordinate efforts to strengthen the judicial commission and assist with legal reform, rehabilitate and build courthouses throughout the country, provide courts administration expertise and provide assistance to the human rights commission. The COP will have primary responsibility for the management of this large, complex, project during its last nine months (end date March, 2005).
Responsibilities:
· Provide technical leadership and management oversight;
· Supervise technical and administrative staff and short-term consultants;
· Serve as the key liaison with interim authority and donor agency;
Qualifications:
· 15 or more years of senior management experience in international development;
· Prefer some technical experience focused on judicial reform, policy planning/coordination, constitutional reform, human rights;
· Work experience in
Afghanistan, Pakistan or South Asia and/or Middle East
· Excellent diplomatic skills; good process skills;

A Director of Finance & Administration is needed for a USAID-funded MSI (www.msiworldwide.com) governance and legal reform project who will directly manage all field-based administrative and financial support functions for this large, complex, project during its last nine months (end date March, 2005).
Responsibilities:
· Provide leadership and management oversight of resource issues in support of project_s programmatic goals (including budget planning, preparation, and monitoring);
· Oversee a host-country national support team in coordinating logistics associated with the implementation of project activities as well as maintenance of the Kabul field office and guesthouse (including travel/visa logistics for staff and consultants);
