Director of International Fundraising +b

Posted by: Danielle McNeil <cyjobs@cityyear.org>

Organization name: City Year, Inc.

Place of assignment: Boston, MA

Job description: City Year International is a new department within City Year Inc., with a goal of promoting citizen service around the globe. The role of the City Year International Department is to demonstrate, promote, and improve the concept of citizen service outside the U.S. CY International has two tactical approaches to achieve its strategic mission of promoting citizen service. First, is the Clinton Democracy Fellowship and second, is the development of youth volunteer programs around the world. Both of these are linked and serve to develop the service movement globally.

City Year International is seeking a high-level; experienced fundraiser, with a proven track record on raising major gifts, to lead and secure funding for the following three areas:

1. Clinton Democracy Fellowship Program(s)

2. City Year South Africa (launching in 2005) and future City Year international sites

3. City Year International’s Headquarter Operations Office

The ideal candidate has expertise on cross-cultural fundraising and has experience working and researching multi-national companies.

Job Summary

The International Fundraising Director will be responsible for developing and implementing a development strategy for City Year International’s initiatives. This department is likely to have an aggressive growth curve. Our fiscal year 2005 (June 30th fiscal year) budget is $2.5MM up from $1.0MM in FY 2004. The Director will lead the effort to raise funds from individuals, corporations, and foundations on a renewable and sustainable basis; while most of this focus will be in the US to start, we expect that this person will be working closely with funders in South Africa, Europe, and other countries and regions over time. The position has two reporting lines: first to the Vice President of International Initiatives and second, to the Vice President for Development in City Year’s National Development Department.

The International Fundraising Director will be responsible for achieving the department’s fundraising goals. This will require designing and implementing a strategy that meets these goals in coordination with City Year’s current operations and with City Year South Africa’s operations. Specifically, this means building and managing a business process that includes a focus on research/prospecting, cultivation, harvesting, and stewardship. The International Fundraising Director will be a member of the City Year national network of Development professionals across 15 sites in the US and with the team in South Africa.

Qualifications and skills required:

 Lead and manage International’s overall development efforts to raise an annual budget of $2.5 million

 Research multi-national companies, foundations, and individuals interested in CDF and City Year’s international mission and goals.

 Introduce, cultivate, and nurture new funding relationships

 Manage the process to develop collateral and supporting materials (proposals and reports) to corporate, foundation, and government funders

 Develop and implement comprehensive marketing and public relations strategy

 Support City Year International Site Board fundraising capacity (currently only CY South Africa)

 Work in partnership with the City Year network to develop multi-national sponsors

 Ensure diversity and sustainability of site donor base

 Manage development business process from donor identification through collection of funds

Qualifications

 Qualified applicants will have a minimum of 10 years of senior-level experience leading and developing fundraising capacity, experience working for or supporting an international organization or program.

 Proven track record of achieving revenue targets and/or a quota of over $2M annually and closing deals in excess of $100K

 Proven track record of raising funds outside the US

 Experience working with Senior Level executives in a corporate environment (C-level/VP)

 Strong verbal communications skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively

 Demonstrated ability to think strategically and thorough understanding of strategic development

Other
