Job description: City Year International is a new department within City Year Inc., with a goal of promoting citizen service around the globe. The role of the City Year International Department is to demonstrate, promote, and improve the concept of citizen service outside the U.S. CY International has two tactical approaches to achieve its strategic mission of promoting citizen service. First, is the Clinton Democracy Fellowship and second, is the development of youth volunteer programs around the world. Both of these are linked and serve to develop the service movement globally.
City Year International is seeking a high-level; experienced fundraiser, with a proven track record on raising major gifts, to lead and secure funding for the following three areas:
1. Clinton Democracy Fellowship Program(s)
2. City
Year South Africa (launching in 2005) and future City Year international sites
3. City
Year International’s Headquarter Operations Office
The ideal candidate has expertise on cross-cultural fundraising and has experience working and researching multi-national companies.
Job Summary
The International Fundraising Director will be responsible for developing and implementing a development strategy for City Year International’s initiatives. This department is likely to have an aggressive growth curve. Our fiscal year 2005 (June 30th fiscal year) budget is $2.5MM up from $1.0MM in FY 2004. The Director will lead the effort to raise funds from individuals, corporations, and foundations on a renewable and sustainable basis; while most of this focus will be in the US to start, we expect that this person will be working closely with funders in South Africa, Europe, and other countries and regions over time. The position has two reporting lines: first to the Vice President of International Initiatives and second, to the Vice President for Development in City Year’s National Development Department.
The International Fundraising Director will be responsible for achieving the department’s fundraising goals. This will require designing and implementing a strategy that meets these goals in coordination with City Year’s current operations and with City Year South Africa’s operations. Specifically, this means building and managing a business process that includes a focus on research/prospecting, cultivation, harvesting, and stewardship. The International Fundraising Director will be a member of the City Year national network of Development professionals across 15 sites in the US and with the team in South Africa.
Qualifications and skills required:
 Create
and implement annual development plan and strategy
 Lead
and manage International’s overall development efforts to raise an annual
budget of $2.5 million
 Research multi-national companies, foundations, and individuals interested in CDF and City Year’s international mission and goals.
 Introduce,
cultivate, and nurture new funding relationships
 Cultivate and nurture existing relationships with current and potential corporate & foundation sponsors, and individual donors
 Manage the process to develop collateral and supporting materials (proposals and reports) to corporate, foundation, and government funders
 Develop and grow our individual donor base- multiple philanthropic circles; manage annual giving campaign; cultivate major gifts
 Develop and implement comprehensive marketing and public relations strategy
 Support City Year International Site Board fundraising capacity (currently only CY South Africa)
 Work
in partnership with the City Year network to develop multi-national sponsors
 Ensure
diversity and sustainability of site donor base
 Manage
development business process from donor identification through collection of
funds
Qualifications
 Qualified applicants will have a minimum of 10 years of senior-level experience leading and developing fundraising capacity, experience working for or supporting an international organization or program.
 Proven track record of achieving revenue targets and/or a quota of over $2M annually and closing deals in excess of $100K
 Proven
track record of raising funds outside the US
 Experience working with Senior Level executives in a corporate environment (C-level/VP)
 Strong
verbal communications skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and
persuasively
 Demonstrated
ability to think strategically and thorough understanding of strategic
development
 Demonstrated
ability to prospect, cultivate, and manage new accounts
 Strong
partnership-building and event planning skills
 Thorough
understanding of all components of a diversified funding base
 Strong
computer skills and knowledge of data base programs; knowledge of Raiser’s Edge
a plus
 The ability to manage high volume of donor transactions and be productive in a fast paced multi-tasked environment
Knowledge
 Extensive knowledge of operational management within a non-profit organization.
 Exposure to or expertise in international organizations or programs preferred.
 An understanding of basic finance and budgeting
 Expertise in developing a leadership team that works in an integrated way to achieve major goals, combined with commitment to and ability to recruit and retain a diverse workforce.
Education
 An undergraduate degree or its equivalent. An advanced degree in a related field is preferred (international affairs, public administration, business administration).
Other
 Strong passion for and commitment to the tri-partite mission of City Year of delivering high impact service to youth and institutions overseas; developing young people in the corps as powerful civic leaders and life-long active citizens; and promoting and advancing the concept of global citizen service.

Junior Consultant
We recently won a project in Trinidad and Tobago. We are looking urgently for a Junior Consultant to undertake the following assignment starting 2005:
1.2 Intervention 2 (junior expert): standardisation of products and capacity building of production management and middle management:
1.2.1 Tasks. In close collaboration with the expert in lean manufacturing systems and with CI General Management:
· Assure implementation, follow-up and monitoring of the manufacturing systems (see guidelines of intervention 1);
· Assure capacity building of production manager and middle management; propose and monitor indicators to measure progress of capacity building;
· Develop catalogue of kitchens closets and vanities in modular units for private sales, prototype and display in showroom.
· Verify costing through work-study and set benchmarks for individual production processes.
· Install preventative maintenance schedule for all equipment;
· Give advise for complementary equipment, if any;
· Investigate outsourcing of components and products to local manufactures;
· Develop payment by results system for individual departments.
· Carry out training programme for department supervisors on new production systems and manufacturing techniques;
· Make job descriptions and monitor supervisors; train monitors in monitoring of jobs;
· Implement quality control guidelines (see intervention 1); train and monitor supervisors;
· Implement problem solving system (see intervention 1); train and monitor supervisors;
· Install cabinet ware software and set up for generating production information. Train new Cad Cam technician on CNC software and Cabinet ware;
1.2.2 Duration:· 90 working days (5-day weeks)
1.2.3 Remarks: At all times the consultant shall involve the production managers and middle managers in his work and assure their training. He will always avoid to carry out production tasks and never substitute for the production managers and middle managers.
