Flexible Work Patterns

It is the nature of the work of Corrymeela that tasks and responsibilities will sometimes be unpredictable and varied.  All staff are expected to work in a flexible way and meet the needs of a Centre which operates over a 7-day week for 50 weeks of the year.  When the occasion arises that tasks which are not covered in the job description have to be undertaken, these additional duties will normally be to cover unforeseen circumstances or changes in work patterns and will normally be compatible with the regular type of work.  If the additional task or responsibility becomes a regular or frequent aspect of the work, then it will be built into the job description, in consultation with the member of staff.


Qualifications and skills required: ESSENTIAL

1.       Able to demonstrate a close sympathy with, and full support of, the ethos of Corrymeela and able to share its central Christian commitment.

2.       Able to demonstrate an understanding of Northern Ireland and its society.

3.       Proven management, organisational and administrative experience (at least 3 years experience).

4.       Proven experience of managing a budget.

MADRE, an international women's human rights organization based in New York, is looking for volunteers to assist with our involvement in Beijing+10 (to be held during the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations from February 28-March 11, 2005). This is a fantastic opportunity to help bring grassroots voices to the UN, and to learn about Indigenous women's organizing, women's human rights and the collective rights of Indigenous Peoples.

MADRE is partnering with the International Indigenous Women's Forum (Foro Internacional de la Mujer Indigena, FIMI) to facilitate the participation of over 150 Indigenous women from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and North America in Beijing+10. MADRE and FIMI will co-sponsor a two-day conference entitled, ''Bringing Indigenous Perspectives to the International Arena'' on February 26th and 27th. We will also co-sponsor several events and workshops that will address topics such as the collective rights of Indigenous Peoples, women's human rights, food security, and women's role in sustainable development.

MADRE is looking for several volunteers to work between 8-20 hrs/week to help us prepare for Beijing+10 and to assist with events during Beijing+10. MADRE is most in need of volunteers the weekend of February 26th and 27th during the day (8am-5pm) and on Saturday evening, February 26th for a reception from 5-11pm. We also need volunteers during the following days/times:

*  Feb. 28 - March 4 (M-F) from 4-7pm to assist with human rights and international advocacy trainings.

*  Now until March 11 in the MADRE office to help MADRE staff prepare for the conference (daytime hours).

*  March 7, 8, 10, and 11 to assist with additional MADRE events  during the day.

SUMMARY:

A Project Director based in Washington, D.C., is needed to manage a new three-year project in four countries of Africa entitled, ''Supporting Parliamentary Leaders to Improve Women's Access to Health Care in the Context of the HIV/AIDS Pandemic in Africa.'' This project, with funding from the Gates Foundation, will operate in Botswana, Kenya, Namibia and Tanzania in partnership with the European Parliamentarians for Africa (AWEPA), Ethical Globalization Initiative (EGI), Center for the Study of AIDS (CSA) at the University of Pretoria, the International Community of Women Living with AIDS (ICW) and the International AIDS Trust (IAT).

ICRW, as lead partner, is responsible for ensuring project implementation and results, maintaining strong and effective communication among partners, and managing donor relations with the Gates Foundation.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Project Director will provide strategic leadership to the multi- institutional project team; lead, coordinate and manage the planning and implementation processes; and monitor project activities by the six partners in the four countries, including workshops, research and communications, technical assistance, and monitoring and evaluation.

Specific responsibilities include:

* Coordinating management team activities;

* Preparing and monitoring partner work plans;

* Monitoring compliance with Gates contract requirements;

* Developing and managing project budgets; and

* Ensuring the timely and consistent delivery of outputs and reports.

REQUIREMENTS:

Candidate must have an advanced degree in a development-related field; eight years of experience in leading development projects and staff, with at least three year of experience managing a consortium and/or group of organizations to implement a single initiative; and significant experience working with host country governments and/or legislative bodies.

The candidate also must have experience managing complex budgets, and possess strong interpersonal and writing skills.
