description: Main Tasks and responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Manager -- Portfolio Performance Measurement and Monitoring (PMM) – defines, manages and operationalizes GAIN’s PMM strategies for all Programs. The Senior Manager will be responsible for setting up the systems and processes to embed performance-based management in the day-to-day operations of GAIN. They will also be responsible for developing indicators, frameworks and tools (especially surveys to determine coverage) that will define and facilitate implementation of performance metrics that integrate the operational perspectives with monitoring, evaluation and knowledge management. Responsibilities will also include developing the methods and systems of data validity and performance/evidence based decision processes as well as building institutional capacity within and outside GAIN and facilitating reporting to the GAIN Board. The Senior Manager will also be responsible for managing all GAIN human and financial resources dedicated to PMM.
Specific Functions Include:
•Develops a PMM framework for GAIN,
•Designs approaches and tools that will facilitate the collection, analysis and presentation of powerful performance information, building on and informing grant making processes;
•Collaborates with GAIN staff to translate approaches to performance management into processes and practical tools that resonate with program management realities;
•Analyzes,
designs and disseminates good practices from each of the GAIN countries
•Makes the good practices available on the GAIN website for review and discussion.
•Ensures
the knowledge platform aspect of the GAIN website
•Fosters cooperation, transparency and a dynamic exchange of useful information;
•Ensures integration of institutional performance measures into overall performance metrics for GAIN;
•Identifies
institutions in Asia, Africa and
•Identifies and manages projects and staff linked to the GAIN PMM framework;
•Regularly presents PMM reports to the GAIN Board of Directors;
•Participates in GAIN management and program groups;
•Collaborates with other agencies involved in delivering programs aimed at reducing micronutrient malnutrition to develop common approaches to PMM;
•Provides technical assistance as required by GAIN recipients and partners;
•Provides information for GAIN communications activities relating to PMM.
Qualifications and skills required: Competences:
a)strategic thinking, capable of fusing business model execution with corporate strategies in framing the rigorous performance metrics that advance GAIN’s capacity to perform and demonstrate value in its Programs;
b)taking leadership, ability to focus on GAIN’s goals and synergize program staff around the importance of performance assessment, enabling the organization to project an image of competence and effectiveness;
c)works well in a team, ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary and multicultural team;
d)up to
date, sound knowledge base, concerning the
measurement of nutrition and public health outcomes and indicators, and
fully conversant with nutrition interventions of all kinds
Experience - at least ten years work experience in the nutrition field, with a strong focus on operations research, program management and evaluation.
Duration- the post is for a three year period commencing the first quarter of 2005.
Remuneration- the salary and benefits will be commensurate with the level of the candidate. The post will be hired by the GAIN Foundation, a Swiss based NGO.

Job description: Overall Responsibilities:
In close coordination other members of the project management team, the Communication Advisor will be part of a multi-disciplinary team of professionals working to achieve the Program's Strategic Objectives related to improved and sustained health service provision and use. Overall, the Communication Advisor will have primary responsibility for assuring the development, implementation and technical oversight of a comprehensive communication component that will work within the overall program strategy and activities. The component will include advocacy, behavior change communication strategies and programming and developing the capacity of the technical officers in the field offices. Therefore, the advisor will develop and manage communications activities in fixed health facilities, within the community and through various mass media.
Key Responsibilities:
•Participate in a thorough review of existing information on provider as well as consumer behaviors related to MCHN, as well as additional information-gathering and behavior testing to determine the specific practices to promote.
•Provide technical leadership for the development and implementation of a program-wide communication strategy, assuring the effective integration of communication into program activities
•Identify and manage short-term technical assistance for the communication activities.
•Work with the Capacity Building Unit to assess provider/community needs in BCC, including training;
•Work with the Research,
Monitoring and Evaluation staff to contribute to the design, oversight and
effective use of a monitoring & evaluation system
Qualifications and skills required:
•Advanced degree in Communications, or a related field in behavioral sciences or health, and a minimum of 10 years of program experience in communication implementation and management.
•Excellent management and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to manage and scale-up large programs
•Demonstrated qualities of being proactive, productive, and able to work quickly and efficiently
•Strong leadership skills, ability to work effectively in a team, and ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
•Proven track record of designing and implementing innovative, results-oriented communication programs.
•Good understanding of strategic behavior change communication principles and practices
•Good experience in designing and managing qualitative research
•Ability to operate in a culturally-appropriate manner in a developing country setting
•Knowledge of marketing, advertising, and brand management and the skills available in the private sector
•Demonstrated ability to form strong public/ private sector partnerships for communications
•Willing to travel and work

DAI’s Agriculture and Agribusiness Practice Area (AAPA) is seeking a well-organized, self-motivated individual to serve as a development staff member in the home office, specializing in technical areas related to agribusiness development. The preferred candidate will have worked at least 5 years in a food industry-related business, and will be familiar with the various parts of the wholesale and retail supply chains. The Agribusiness Specialist will be responsible for: identifying new business opportunities for DAI, developing client relations, undertaking short-term technical assignments (half time), managing and writing competitive proposals (quarter time), and providing technical backstopping and management oversight for existing projects (quarter time).
