MSI's Internship Program - Washington, DC +b

MSI (www.msiworldwide.com) offers part-time semester and full-time summer paid Internships (not for graduates looking for fulltime jobs) for undergraduate, graduate and high school, students in the Washington, DC area who have an interest and experience in international development. Our internship program (about 20 hours per week) covers each of the distinct units within MSI: Project Management, Accounting, Contracting, and Business Development. Our goal is to allow students to learn and grow professionally during their internship and provide each student with opportunities to use and refine their own skills. MSI takes great care to ensure that interns are well engaged in the work community. Upon arrival at MSI, interns are given a brief orientation introducing them to some of the tools that they will need for their internship. Project Management interns are assigned to work on specific MSI projects as well as support tasks. As often as possible, we match interns with projects that best suit both their skills and interests. To ensure the success and development of interns, we hold intern meetings where interns are encouraged to discuss their projects and also provide any feedback on their work and interests. Additionally, we maintain on-going communication with staff members who work directly with the interns to foster good working relationships and the achievement of goals. Interns also participate in bi-weekly trainings specifically designed for them that provide useful skills so they can better assist the projects they work on. These trainings are conducted by knowledgeable MSI staff members who cover topics involving financial, contractual and logistical management of projects and proposals.

Project Management Intern Duties

1. Assist in the development of tools and systems for MSI’s Director for Project Management, Project Managers and Technical Staff

2. Assist in the development of new projects, including budgeting, recruiting for technical expertise

3. Assist in the management of current projects, including monitoring and controlling costs, scheduling, performance monitoring, anticipating and managing changes, contract compliance, maximizing customer satisfaction, logistical support to technical teams, and ensuring optimal financial performance

4. Assist with the satisfactory close (end) to projects, including adherence to contractual requirements, soliciting performance and financial reports, finalizing end-of-project requirements with project staff and client

Save the Children, a leading U.S. and international child-focused relief and development agency seeks 2 Finance and Administration Managers to be based in Jakarta and Medan to have the responsibility for the overall management of the field office's finance and administration. S/he ensures that cash management policy and procedures are refined and operated in accordance with Save the Children and donor regulations; assists in the development of annual budgets; and ensures expenditures are within budgets and in compliance with commitments in grants, contracts and cooperative agreements.

Responsibilities include providing budget vs. expense on a monthly basis; developing and maintaining systems to monitor budget activity; strengthening staff capacity in SUN Systems accounting system; timely submission of financial reports; and training national finance staff. S/he will also ensure policies and procedures are adhered to; review agreements, proposals and contracts; monitor the necessary procurement for grants and agreements; update the inventory listing; and contribute to effective communications between all offices. Requires general management and leadership skills, including personnel management skills; thorough knowledge of USAID grants management regulations and reporting, with experience in non-USAID grants management; experience managing USAID funded grants and cooperative agreements, including budget and financial report preparation; experience using SUN-System accounting software or similar accounting program; excellent oral and written communication skills; and English fluency required; Bahasa Indonesia preferred.

Development Specialist/ Senior Development Specialist:

DAI’s Agriculture and Agribusiness Practice Area (AAPA) is seeking a well-organized, self-motivated individual to serve as a development staff member in the home office, specializing in technical areas related to agribusiness development. The preferred candidate will have worked at least 5 years in a food industry-related business, and will be familiar with the various parts of the wholesale and retail supply chains. The Agribusiness Specialist will be responsible for: identifying new business opportunities for DAI, developing client relations, undertaking short-term technical assignments (half time), managing and writing competitive proposals (quarter time), and providing technical backstopping and management oversight for existing projects (quarter time).
