Plan is establishing a new role in the Executive Office reporting to the COO to help prepare the organization to respond more effectively to disasters.


We are looking for someone who is able to take a long-term perspective in the design of our disaster response work to create a comprehensive Disaster Response Framework along the following axis:


§        Organizational Disaster Preparedness

§        Ensuring access to stocks of key materials in strategic locations

§        Tracking a central emergency fund 

§        Identifying and maintaining an emergency roster of candidates from across the organization who can be involved in disaster response

§        Maintaining relations with key disaster actors - donors, UN agencies, Red Cross

§        Emergency Response (rapid onset disaster) - this involves putting the plans developed above into practice and includes the co-ordination of relief programme coordination (particularly around needs assessments) and donor liaison, and proposal/NO coordination as well as drawing up proper guidelines  for the different stages of an emergency; i.e.  the first few days; first few months; first 1 or 2 years; etc. In essence the role identifies who/what’s needed, finds people to fill that gap, and gets them there.

§        Disaster Risk Reduction - This is a long-term development activity to put DRR methodologies at the heart of what we do and to make Plan a global leader in this field (one that is growing rapidly in status).


Behaviours/Skills required:

The successful candidate needs to be a self-starter capable of working with minimum supervision yet able to provide regular assurance to senior management that the development of the Disaster Response framework is on track and that Plan is increasing its global capability in this area.

Team Leader - Pakistan Response

Plan in Pakistan is in need of a Team Leader who will be responsible for the overall guidance and management of Plan’s immediate and long term response to the earthquake.  He/she will ensure that the children’s rights and welfare come first.

IRC has been providing primary health care services to Afghan refugees in Pakistan since 1980. 15) Managing Director and Publicist / CharityHelp International Inc.

BACKGROUND:

We have an opening for a Managing Director and Publicist to help lead our growing organization and realize our vision of helping charities in developing countries generate sustaining financial support.   By combining the use of low cost communication services, training, web-based data management and online financial transactions, we assist schools and orphanages in building relationships with their sponsors and finding new ones.


We are an Annapolis, Maryland based non-profit organization and are now assisting organizations in Afghanistan and Pakistan (www.charityhelp.org/rawa).  As our organization grows, we will be expanding to other areas of the world.


This is a full or part-time telecommuting position.  More importantly than time availability, we are looking for someone who is very interested in assisting us develop our vision of helping charities create sustaining relationships with their sponsors using modern low cost communications.   Therefore, this position is part-time or full time and open to college / university graduates or graduate students who are interested in working three to five days per week.


Work location:  Home office with occasional travel to meetings with other staff members.


Job Region: Mid-Atlantic Area of USA, Toronto or Bermuda (Most work performed via Telecommuting).


Starting Date: November 30th, 2005.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

-  As the Director you have the vision and expertise to lead CharityHelp International Inc. (CHI) through the next phase of development:


  MEDIA:

-  Develop and implement media and publicity strategy and campaign with the Board of Directors.

-  Plan and coordinate special events for fundraising purposes and finding new sponsors.

- Plan and coordinate participation in events organized by other organization to find new. sponsors.

-  Design, prepare, and publicize brochures, press releases, and other publicity materials.

-  Generate publicity to increase awareness of CHI and its programs.


  MANAGE:

-  Recruit and provide supervision and evaluation to program and support staff.

-  Under the direction of the Board of Directors you will manage all aspects of the organization to reach our goal of economic self-sufficiency for our member organizations.

-  Direct the day-to-day operation of the organization.

-  Maintain finances of CHI, including following a Board approved budget, compliance with funding source requirements and reporting to auditors (i.e. Monitor and manage budget and bookkeeping).


  PUBLICATIONS/REPORTS:

-  Prepare monthly Executive Director financial and anecdotal reports for Board of Directors meetings.

-  Prepare regular financial statements and all reports necessary to maintain non-profit status, including maintaining receipts, bank statements, and expense reports.

-  Manage and oversee all communications to donors and sponsors.


  GRANTS:

-  Research and prepare funding & grant applications.


QUALIFICATIONS:

-  Relevant post-secondary education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

-  Experience with successful grant writing application and financial management.

-  Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

-  Well developed supervisory, administrative and organizational skills.

-  Proven experience with strategic planning, program implementation and evaluation.

-  Experience with fundraising, personnel management and marketing.

-  Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (proficient in Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, the Internet).

-  Ability to maintain flexibility in work schedule and understanding the need to work outside normal business hours as required.

-  Demonstrated success in building community partnerships and generating revenue from multiple sources.
