DESCRIPTION:

The Regional Programme on Empowering Migrant Women Workers is a cross-regional initiative involving countries such as Bangladesh, Cambodia, Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, Jordan, Laos, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. The programme aims to promote the rights of migrant women workers in Asia, both in sending and receiving countries, and address the obligations of governments to protect all human rights, including those of migrants.


The Programme Manager will manage the Regional Programme on Empowerment of Migrant Women Workers in Asia. S/he will work closely with the Regional Programme Directors and the country level Project Coordinators from the other sub-regions participating in the Programme to coordinate cross-regional activities, and provide technical support to the activities in their sub-regions.

3) Gender Specialist / International Labour Organization (ILO) /

DESCRIPTION:

The expert will be one of the regional gender experts for the Americas region and will work under the supervision of the Regional Office, maintaining direct links with offices in the region within her/his operating area, and with the relevant units at Headquarters, in particular the Bureau for Gender Equality.


The expert will be a member of the team of regional experts and will be responsible for technical assistance on the subjects of gender equality and cross-cutting gender issues relating to the ILO Decent Work Agenda in countries within her/his operating area.


Due to the multi-disciplinary and intersectoral nature of this post, it will be necessary to establish close collaboration with the other regional experts, and experts in the offices within her/his operating area. The expert will be responsible for promoting and supporting the incorporation of the gender dimension in the ILO's activities. In order to ensure gender balance, she or he will, whenever necessary, promote the inclusion of women as participants in and beneficiaries of these activities and will take care to ensure that ILO projects and programmes take account of the needs of both men and women. The expert will promote the inclusion of men in gender specific activities.


The duty station will be the Subregional Office for the South Cone of Latin America in Santiago and the expert's operating area will be South America, Brazil and any other country in the region as requested by the Regional Director.


REQUIREMENTS:

- Advanced university degree in social sciences or economics and experience and proven expertise in the subjects of gender and work.

-  Excellent knowledge of Spanish and very good knowledge of a second official language of the ILO.

THE ORGANIZATION:

The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) is an independent Government corporation charged with the administration of the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA).  The MCA seeks to link greater contributions from developed nations to greater responsibility from developing nations. To that end, the MCC will provide development assistance in the form of Compact agreements with eligible countries. In partnership with recipient countries, the MCC will identify constraints to poverty reduction and economic growth, prioritize interventions, and develop programming to address these constraints.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

-  Developing policy regarding the social and gender assessment of activities conducted under the terms of a Compact.

-  Evaluating social issues such as participation, gender, indigenous populations, cultural heritage, resettlement, health and safety, and social inclusion.

REQUIREMENTS:

-  Significant development experience or private sector experience in social impact assessment and gender analysis, particularly in a developing country context.

-  Ability to research, recommend and implement policy relating to the sound social management of activities under the terms of a Compact.

-  Ability to evaluate social assessments and other relevant technical analyses.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME:

Family and Community Health promotes, coordinates and implements technical cooperation activities that emphasize the central role of family and the community to foster a culture of health promotion and prevention where health becomes a social value.


The Latin American Center for Perinatology, Women and Reproductive Health (CLAP) supports country efforts in improving the development and implementation of maternal, perinatal and sexual reproductive health programs. Provides epidemiological surveillance, development and dissemination of best health care practices; clinical, epidemiological and health services evaluation; and training of health professionals in management of health information, evidence-based interventions and research methodology.


SELECTED RESPONSIBILITIES:

-   Contribute to the WHO/PAHO program of work for strategic and programmatic orientations, biennial program budget and semiannual program of work;

-  Technical knowledge for the design, monitoring and intervention assessment to change the behavior and protect the health of mother, newborn and child, women, adolescent and youth populations of the Region.

-  Theoretic conception on new family and community health paradigms highlighting the life cycle, the continuum of care, and the focus of gender and ethnicity, models of attention, methodological and normative processes.

-  High technical and theoretic expertise in planning and strategic management, epidemiology knowledge, perinatal health, sexual and reproductive health, health and communication education, social participation, research, and diffusion of information.

-  Development of strategic alliances and mobilization of resources.

-  Thirteen years of combined national and international experience in the area of mother and child health and reproductive health.  Experience should include development technical cooperation in the countries; clinical work in reproductive health; the planning, design, execution and evaluation of research and training programs, as well as managerial responsibilities on administration of public health institutions.

-  Very good knowledge of Spanish or English with working knowledge of the other. Knowledge of Portuguese and French would be an asset.

The Department of Women's Studies at the University at Albany, SUNY invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with a research program in global gender issues. Candidates with expertise in areas such as globalization and work; migration/transnational movements; civil society, feminist activism, and NGO's; or environmental (science and health) issues would strengthen our existing course tracks.


We seek a candidate with:

Roots of Peace is an American NGO implementing agricultural development projects in Afghanistan with funding from USAID. See our webpage www.rootsofpeace.org for more information.


RoP is beginning implementation a nut production and marketing project in two zones: Mazar-i-Sharif and Ghorband-Kabul. The project will assist Afghan almond producers increase the productivity of their existing almond trees and increase the revenue they earn from the sale of their almonds. The project will assist Afghan nut merchants to use improved processing, packaging and marketing techniques to increase the revenue they earn from the sale of almonds.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

-   Interview the RoP Chief of Party, Nut Marketing Specialist and Nut Production Specialist to fully understand the nature of the RoP nut production and marketing project.

-   Accompany RoP staff into the field to meet with nut producers and merchants to identify women nut producers and merchants and develop with them specialized activities to assure their participation in the activities and benefits of the RoP nut project.

-   Accompany RoP staff into the field to meet with nut producers and merchants to identify opportunities for women (other than female farmers or merchants) to participate in the activities of the RoP nut project.

-   Propose to RoP management and appropriate Afghan community leaders and stakeholders a series of educational programs and activities designed to assure women participation in the RoP nut production and marketing project.

-   Begin implementation of those educational programs and activities approved by RoP management and appropriate Afghan community leaders and stakeholders.

-   Travel, in the company of RoP extension personnel, to relatively remote field locations near Mazar-i-Sharif and in the Ghorband valley north of Kabul to speak with and implement programs with Afghan nut producers and merchants.

DESCRIPTION:

Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, MA is the home site for a Harvard-wide training grant initiative called ''Hormones and Genes in Women's Health: From  Bench to Bedside.'' Applications are sought for a full-time or part-time faculty position for an MD or PhD/ScD to develop an academic career in women's health.  Specifically, this NIH-sponsored training grant will support scholars involved in investigating the role of hormones and genes in understanding sex differences in vulnerabilities to clinical disorders and those disorders specific to women.


Applications from women and minorities are highly encouraged and desired.


The Brigham and Women's Hospital is a Harvard Medical School affiliate.
