Technical expertise:

Advisory approaches through SNV’s 4 delivery channels in the WaSH and RE sectors:

a) Advisory services

o        Support assessment of capacity building demands in the sectors and the existing capacity of SNV and its (potential) partners. Advice on collaboration opportunities with like minded donors and partnerships, including LCBs.

o        Provide quality advisory services to enhance institutional strengthening processes amongst actors and clients in the WaSH and RE sectors.

o        Support the identification of institutional sector constraints and the development of an enabling sector environment.

o        Strengthen capacities of clients and provide client focused advisory services that enable them to a) improve their overall service delivery capacity, b) deliver effective and efficient services and c) improve their networking capacity within the sectors.

o        Provide quality advisory services and develop ways to effectively mainstream gender, social inclusion and good governance in clients’ internal organizational functioning, service delivery processes and partnerships.

o        Support the achievement of the WaSH sector strategy outcome and impact targets (a.o. WaSH community access with emphasis on inclusion of socially excluded groups in WaSH, higher private sector involvement in rural WaSH, introduction of low-cost and adapted technologies for better WaSH sustainability and hygiene practices, development of outsourcing modalities, a performance measurement and enforcement framework and capacity development plans for WaSH service delivery)

o        Support the achievement of the RE sector strategy outcome and impact targets (a.o. pro-poor RE approaches to make biogas, improved water mills accessible for excluded communities, extension of RE products to new areas)

o        Support development of monitoring systems and indicators for clients, partners and LCBs for the sector capacity strengthening process, capturing progress at different levels: hygiene practice and community empowerment, NGOs service delivery, LCB capacity and service quality, Government service delivery, SNV portfolio and sector team services, overall WaSH sector.

o        Support and facilitate sector lead advisors with the overall capacity strengthening process of clients, networks and LCBs.

b) Knowledge brokering and networking

o        Develop and carry out knowledge brokering assignments that promote knowledge development of the sector, learning processes in the sector, and the development of knowledge networks in the sector.

o        Strengthen linkages with and between actors in the sector, with special focus on clients and partners. Strengthen actor collaboration and support developing networks.

o        Establish internal linkages with SNV advisors (WaSH, Governance for Empowerment and other) to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to SNV program development and implementation.

o        Contribute to organizational learning of SNV Nepal, by writing at least one case study annually, supporting the concerned SNV Nepal and regional knowledge networks.

o        Represent SNV and its organizational interests effectively in (inter) national, regional and local level forums as appropriate.

d) Local capacity builders (LCB’s)

o        Support the development of a sector strategy for LCBs, including guidance on how to formalize different partnership relationships.

o        Support organizational strengthening processes and learning of LCBs.

e) Advocacy

o        Represent SNV and its organizational interests effectively in (inter) national, regional and local level forums, with special focus on voicing the capacity development needs of SNV’s clients and beneficiaries and on promoting the SNV capacity development approaches.

o        Support PCs in (corporate) advocacy initiatives

f) Internal SNV

In coordination with the Portfolio Coordinator(s):

o        Support WaSH/RE national and portfolio strategy development and monitoring.

o        Develop concrete linkages between the WaSH and RE sectors for SNV interventions, support SNV advisors (and clients) in utilizing identified opportunities and support SNV sector leaders with integrating synergies in sector strategies and plans.

o        Support portfolio team coordination, learning and knowledge development on WaSH/RE.

o        Support reflection and team building at portfolio and sector team levels

Job qualifications : Education: Preferably Master’s degree in Water and Sanitation, Renewable Energy and other relevant discipline

Work experience:

        5 years of experience with proven track record in the field of water, sanitation and hygiene and/or renewable energy, through providing relevant capacity development services and facilitating multi disciplinary approaches and multi-stakeholder processes.

        Proven track record of working with pro-poor community approaches, social inclusion and gender sensitive issues in a rural development context, impacting day to day working modalities of NGOs, public sector, private sector and CBOs.

        Knowledge of and experience with the functioning of government, private sector and civil society organisations, including decentralization and private public partnerships

        Knowledge of and experience with participatory techniques, coaching, learning and team building.

f) Internal SNV

As a sector leader:

o       Leads sector strategy and annual sector plan development , involving team members, PCs as well as relevant external actors, using a participatory process; the MT approves sector strategies and annual plans

o       monitors quality and coherence of implementation of sector strategy/annual plans;

o       prepares mid-year and annual sector reports (this includes progress in relation to plans, partnerships, resource mobilization, knowledge networking and knowledge brokering activities) to the sponsor PC and CD;

o       provides content support to sector advisers across all portfolios;

o       plans and supports knowledge brokering assignments in the sector

o       coordinates sector resource mobilization with the sponsor PC ;

o       coordinates national level sector partnerships and relations with sponsor PC;

o       participates in internal and external sector networks; promotes the participation of SNV in knowledge events; promotes learning and publication of SNV-sector knowledge;

o       supports product development (in the region) and promotes the application of new tools and approaches;

o       coordinates the country sector team;

o       Provide cross-country (SNV Asia) advisory services based on country agreements.

Job qualifications : Education: Preferably Master’s degree in Water and Sanitation and/or other relevant discipline

Work experience:

o       7 years of experience with proven track record in the field of water, sanitation and hygiene or related field, through providing relevant capacity development services and facilitating multi disciplinary approaches and multi-stakeholder processes.

o       Proven track record of working with pro-poor community approaches, social inclusion and gender sensitive issues in a rural WaSH development context, impacting day to day working modalities of NGOs, public sector, private sector and CBOs.

    5)  Designation: Financial Systems Officer (Southern Zone) (1)

    Location: Hyderabad-based

    Reports To: Senior Financial Systems Specialist (Southern Zone)

    Overview: The Financial Systems Officers will support the Action   Research Partners programmes in the Southern Zone pilot-test areas where they will play the lead role. He/she will also assist with the development of the research agenda/studies, and the National Curriculum on Microfinance for India. He/She will spend approximately:  

    Ø  40% of the time in ARP and other offices  

    Ø  35% of the time in the field and

    Ø  25% time in MicroSave office

    Responsibilities:

    ·  Assist with the implementation of the Action Research     Programmes

    in the Southern Zone pilot-test area (with the Senior Financial Systems     Specialist and Financial Systems Specialist)

    ·  Assist with the planning of the training/practice-oriented     research programme (with the Programme Director, Senior Financial Systems and Training Specialists)

    ·  Assist with the in-the-field follow-up to training courses run by the Financial Services Learning Centre.

    Qualifications:

    ·  Master level degree (or higher) in Banking/Business     Administration/ Accounting

    ·  At least 1-3 years experience in Banking or Microfinance  

    ·  Experience with the delivery of technical assistance programmes

    ·  Cost accounting skills and experience.  

    ·  Experience with financial modeling  

    ·  Computer literate in Microsoft Word and Excel and a working     knowledge of email and internet systems

    ·  A strong field orientation and proven inter personal skills

    ·  Tamil/Malayalam speakers preferred  

    ·  Good spoken and written English

    6)  Designation: Training Specialist

    Location: Lucknow-based

    Reports To: Senior Training Specialist

    Overview: The Training Specialist will be responsible for assisting the     Senior Knowledge Management and Training Specialist and will lead the   training activities in the two Action Research pilot-test areas, as well as   playing an active role in the development of training toolkits/materials, the delivery of training course and the in-the-field follow-up, and in the   coordination with and quality control of the consultants. He/she will spend   approximately:

    Ø  40% time in ARP and other offices  

    Ø  30% of the time in the field

  Ø  30% time in MicroSave office

    Responsibilities:

    ·  Work with the Senior Training Specialist and collaborating     organisations to develop the toolkits/courses in the National Curriculum for   Microfinance in India.

    ·  To deliver the toolkits/training courses and field follow-up on   (in collaboration with the Senior Financial Systems Specialists, Financial   Systems Specialists and Financial Systems Officers)

    ·    Liaise with the consultants – ensuring that they receive appropriate training, support and quality control to deliver MicroSave toolkits

    Qualifications:

    ·  Master level degree (or higher) in Social Development/Business   Studies/Banking

    ·  At least 5 years experience in Microfinance/banking

    ·  Demonstrated experience with developing and delivering training   toolkits/programmes

    ·  Demonstrated experience with field-based microfinance research   assignments

    ·  Computer literate in Microsoft Word and Powerpoint and a working   knowledge of email and internet systems

    ·  A very strong field orientation.

    ·  Excellent spoken and written English
