description : The American Civil Liberties
OVERVIEW
As
a member of the Major Gifts department, the Manager of Major Donor Relations
will help lead an aggressive, rapidly growing major gifts program. This position provides the opportunity to
significantly develop and grow a portfolio of the organization’s top
contributors for a development department that has grown to 50 full-time staff
and raises $100 million annually. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Major Gifts, this senior-level
development professional will be responsible for actively promoting major gifts
among ACLU donors through a nationwide program of face-to-face cultivation,
solicitation and stewardship.
ROLES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Create and ensure implementation of cultivation
and solicitation strategies for a portfolio of the organization’s major donors
and prospects nationwide.
• Develop and coordinate stewardship of
portfolio to ensure long-term relationship of donors to the ACLU. Coordinate prioritization and growth of a
prospect pool in local areas across the country. Develop and oversee donor-specific
solicitation, cultivation and stewardship plans.
• Expand and maintain a portfolio of donor and prospect relationships with a primary emphasis on face-to-face visits, in addition to written communications and phone calls. Work with senior national staff and volunteer leadership on donor strategies for the donor portfolio.
• Advise, support and collaborate with
state affiliates to determine the best donor cultivation and solicitation
strategies and stewardship of gifts. Enable strategies either directly or by support of national/affiliate
staff.
• Manage and implement systems for
tracking communications, interactions, and income for portfolio. Maintain accurate and current data files,
including giving histories, profiles, interactions, donor visit reports etc.
• Determine and develop materials, including proposals, funding reports, and other communications required to cultivate and solicit major donors.
• Assist in organizing national and
affiliate cultivation events for major donors.
• Provide development training and
presentations to affiliate staff, board and volunteers.
• As a senior member of the development
team, assist with and participate in other activities, as assigned.

The

Job
qualifications : EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 6
years experience in developing successful personal cultivation, face-to-face
contact, solicitation approaches, and stewardship of individual prospects or
and equivalent experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience developing successful written donor communications.
• Ability to partner with and mentor
others on major donor cultivation and solicitation and as well as experience
accompanying senior staff and directly soliciting gifts.
• Experience and ease meeting donors face-to-face and accompanying staff and volunteers on
donor visits.
• Highest level of professionalism and interpersonal skills necessary for working with major donors, board members, high level volunteers and senior staff.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects; superior attention to detail with strong follow-through and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Computer proficiency, including use of fundraising database management systems.
• Knowledge of, or experience in national
organization setting preferred.
• Ability to work both independently and to collaborate within a team.
• Must be driven and possess the
determination to see work through to completion.
• Must be willing to travel.
