Position
Summary:
MSI
is seeking a Civil Society Specialist for an upcoming USAID Civil Society
project in Ukraine.
Responsibilities:
• In coordination with MSI’s program staff
develop and manage implementation of the Ukraine Civil Society project strategy
to build NGO capacity and sustainability.
• Lead development and implementation of
an NGO capacity and sustainability building training program.
• Provide technical assistance to NGOs in
strengthening their organizational capacity and developing sustainability plans;
• Foster NGO financial sustainability by
facilitating establishing funding instruments, such as: public-private
partnerships, corporate matching grants, and others.
• Contribute to promoting legal
environment to stimulate financial sustainability of NGOs.
Job
qualifications : Qualifications:
• University degree;
• 5+ years of experience in working with
NGOs;
• Strong knowledge of the legal framework
for NGO, as well as issues of the NGO capacity and sustainability;
• Experience in conducting fundraising and
leveraging funds;
• Proved managerial experience;
• Proved experience in developing and
conducting training programs;
• Preferably but not necessary experience
in working with USAID programs;
• English language skills.

The
Senior Development Officer works with the Civil Society Division Director to
set and achieve funding goals and implements the organization’s development
strategies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Principle
responsibilities include:
• Analyze funding trends and contribute to
overall strategy for new business development: identify priority areas (geographic
and technical) and emerging opportunities; help achieve new business goals in
civil society.
• Monitor market intelligence and manage
leads: track and monitor information from all sources and updating of the IREX
opportunity management system, ensuring that bidding decisions are coordinated
and effectively made.
• Lead and support new business projects:
analyze solicitations; create and oversee proposal teams; prepare technical
proposals in collaboration with technical staff and partners; prepare cost
proposals; oversee submission.
• Contribute to organization-wide capacity
in new business development: supervise junior development staff; train and
mentor technical staff in proposal preparation; represent IREX at meetings,
partner negotiations, and conferences.

The
Urban Institute’s Center on International Development and Governance has an
immediate opening for a Senior Research Associate. (This UI center was known as
the International Activities Center until July 2008)
The
Senior Research Associate (SRA) will be responsible for designing, implementing
and evaluating research and technical assistance projects related to
democratization, economic and social development in developing world. The SRA will be a leader in the Urban
Institute’s initiatives addressing one or more of the areas of:
decentralization and local governance, performance management, urban
development, intergovernmental cooperation, anti-corruption activities,
municipal finance, infrastructure, public service delivery, legislative, policy
and institutional reform, local economic development, and civil society
strengthening for civic engagement.
The
SRA will assist and take the lead in writing proposals for additional project
funding; help manage projects; and mentor staff overseas and in the home office
in Washington, DC. The job will require
international travel of up to 25% of time.
More
specifically, the Senior Research Associate will be expected to:
1. Develop and lead research or technical
assistance projects.
2. Work with project teams to develop
evidence-based approaches to policy formulation and implementation.
3. Disseminate results of research and
projects to developing country counterparts and peers in written and other
formats.
4. Contribute to UI knowledge management,
communications and external relations
5. Contribute to managing the budget, staff,
schedule, and substantive reporting for selected program activities
6. Write technical
proposals for funding for programs and research from USAID, the World Bank,
foundations, and other bilateral and multi-lateral donors
7. Contribute to recruiting, mentoring, and
developing relationships with donor contacts and partner organizations.
Job
qualifications : The ideal candidate will have a
minimum of 10 years experience in international development. He/she will hold
at least a Masters’ degree or Ph.D. (preferred) in Economics, Law, Public
Administration, Urban Planning, Public Policy, or other social sciences.
Candidate
must have:

Experience in conducting research and translating that into technical
assistance, training, and advice to governments in developing countries
•
Excellent analytical ability
•
Demonstrated success in fundraising from foundations and other donors.

Experience in conducting trainings and workshops.

Successful project and budget management skills, excellent sponsor relationship

Preferred
skills include:

We seek an experienced professional who will deliver
on SNV ambitions to leverage and diversify our financial resources in WCA. The
2008 regional target of Euro 3 Million is already met. The Development Manager
is expected to attract a minimum of Euro 5 million annually in 2009 increasing
to Euro 8 Million in 2015.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Reporting to the regional director (RD), the Regional
Fundraising Manager is a member of the regional management team. S/he will
liaise closely with peers in the other 4 SNV regions and with relevant Head
Office staff in the Netherlands. This position will focus on creating a
long-range fundraising plan for the region and updating it yearly; cultivating
and soliciting donors, instituting a public-relations program; organizing
appropriate staff training; maintaining fundraising records; writing and
sending fundraising applications; sending follow up notes or overseeing that
task; reporting to large donors on specific projects; and visiting major
donors. This will require understanding of donor requirements and assessing
compatibility with SNV’s values, mission, strategy and policies.
Key responsibilities:
1. Resource Mobilization
• Lead the
development of regional fundraising strategies and draft regional fundraising
plans, including budgets (in close collaboration with the Regional Controller),
with realistic targets and milestones, in line with SNV mission and policies
• Map,
cultivate and solicit relevant donors, focusing on multilateral and bilateral
organizations, corporations, foundations, and private funders in cooperation
with senior regional staff and country directors
• Drive
the development of regional branding and PR
• Inspire,
coach and organise appropriate training for key staff engaged in fundraising
• Maintain
efficient administration of regional fundraising initiatives: oversee an
effective donor management system, write proposals, develop effective donor
relations communication tools, ensure proper reporting and compliance
2. Knowledge Development and Strategic Planning
• Nurture
strong links with knowledge development networks to profile SNV and the WCA
region
• Oversee
and analyze research to identify new sources of funding
• Stay
abreast of philanthropic, economic , social and
community trends related to SNV in collaboration with the regional knowledge
managers
• Ensure
that SNV staff, partners and clients in the region are informed of trends and
initiatives that might impact on the programmes and strategic positioning
choices of the organization
Regular travel within and outside of the region is
necessary.
Duty Station: The duty station is Ouagadougou, the
capital of Burkina Faso.

international schools, including French and American. There is a Dutch school
for additional Dutch language training for several hours per week.

Accessibility: six times a week direct flights to and
from Europe, daily via other hubs.
