Job description : Overview:

AIR’s International Development Program seeks to enhance the capacity of developing countries to improve their quality of life through education and social development. We have worked in collaboration with local partners in more than 80 countries over the past three decades. In partnership with others, we seek to: ensure children’s equitable access to all levels of education; improve the quality and relevance of education; and empower individuals, communities, and institutions as agents of social and behavioral change. Headquartered in Washington, DC. AIR is recruiting candidates for the position of Chief of Party.

Responsibilities:

The Chief of Party (COP) will provide the vision, leadership and management oversight for projects in addition to the supervision, administration, and implementation of the contract in the field. This individual will establish and maintain systems for project operations, ensure that all contractual deadlines are met and targets are achieved, maintain working relationships with project stakeholders and partners, and oversee the preparation and submission of periodic progress and financial reports. The COP will deal with partner organizations and coordinate with USAID and other donors in all aspects of project planning, monitoring, and execution.

Job qualifications :

Qualifications:

Interested candidates should possess the following qualifications: 8-10 years previous successful experience as chief of party or similar senior level position on education projects; masters degree in education, management or related field; Fluency in French; knowledge of USAID regulations; experience in strategic planning, managing and directing a large staff and multiple sub-contractors on complex projects; familiarity with management of projects in post-conflict situations highly desirable. Candidate must have a minimum of three years of professional experience in a leadership role in developing countries in implementation of complex basic education programs in areas such as education policy, improving educational quality and access, educational assessment of disadvantaged students, development of community participation in the improvement of basic education for disadvantaged children, and monitoring and evaluation of basic education projects. Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills are required.

This person will be the catalyst to the unification and clarification of KickStart’s overall marketing strategy.  Establishing and developing our brands – KickStart & MoneyMaker - is a critical component of our future strategy.  KickStart is the brand that we use with donors, with corporate customers, and our peers. MoneyMaker, our product brand, will be used to drive customers retail stores and will give our skeptical users confidence in our products and differentiate us from any potential competitors. KickStart creates impacts by increasing sales and usage of our award-winning MoneyMaker technologies to farmers, who use the technology to start small-scale family farm businesses.

Principle Accountabilities

1.Shaping and influencing the development of an Integrated Marketing Communications strategy - understand how the relationship between brand marketing, retail merchandising, sales,  advertising, direct marketing, and customer relationship management can be used to support our sales strategy, marketing strategy, and the relationship with our target audience.  This includes balancing the role of Corporate

2.Marketing versus Country/Program Marketing and Global versus Local requirements.

3. Building the capacity and mentoring the Marketing Organizations in KickStart, including the Global Marketing team as well as marketing resources in the programs.  This involves leading and motivating a cross-functional/cross-cultural marketing team with often-different levels of understanding and motivation.

4. Lead the development and assist in the implementation of global marketing campaigns and promotions – lead the market research to understand the customers better, concept design, review, final design, and approval process for global marketing campaigns.

5. Lead the implementation and adoption of a data- driven culture.  The ability to use data to synthesize insights and clarify options is a fundamental, skill that is incumbent in this position. 

Job qualifications : Skills and Competencies

The job requires a ‘strategic thinker’, with a vision of what local and global marketing has to offer, as well as the talent and political acumen to translate that vision into a concrete plan that generates both long and short-term results.

1.10 plus years of marketing experience in the private sector, experience working at an Social Marketing organization will be a plus

2. People Management Experience – managing, mentoring, and developing people and a high performing team.  Demonstrated record of organizational development and capacity building.

3. Team player with excellent interpersonal and writing skills

4. Knowledgeable on production of print Marketing collaterals

5. Experience in directing the creative process

6. Experience in managing vendors and negotiating for best possible prices

7. Hands-on approach to the role - An eye for detail and quality

8. Planning, organizational and analytical skills

9. Willingness and flexibility to travel

10. Financial management experience – develop and manage operating plans and budgets

11. Results/Performance Orientation – proven “self-starter”
