Liverpool Associates in Tropical Health Ltd (LATH) is a subsidiary company of the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.  Our purpose is to improve the quality of life of disadvantaged communities through transforming practice and influencing policy in the health sector of low income countries.

The Technical Resource Centre within LATH manages and bids for short term technical assistance to external clients and provides logistics, contracting, consultant search, and technical services to LATH’s Programme Delivery and Business Development Teams.  We are now looking to recruit:

Public Health/Health Systems/Health Planning Specialist

REF: PER/TRCPHS Full Time, Permanent,

This role will primarily involve the successful candidate contributing towards the tendering and winning of health programmes, delivering consultancy and providing technical oversight to existing programmes and to other consultants.  We are looking for either a public health specialist or health systems specialist or health planning specialist.

It is essential that you have had past experience of working within a project environment together with substantial bid proposal writing experience. Familiarity of working within at least 3 Sub-Saharan African countries.  You will have significant experience of delivering consultancy including evaluations.

An excellent communicator with strong interpersonal and influencing skills, you will have the ability to develop long-term productive relationships with partners and manage within a fast changing working environment.  The ability to work creatively and independently to achieve results is required to operate effectively within this role.

You will have a Masters degree in Public Health/Health Planning or equivalent. A medical degree is desirable but not essential.

This post will based in Liverpool, UK but regular travel to developing countries, often at short notice is required.

Job description : Health Planner– Based in Juba, Southern Sudan           

Contract Period: 8 Months

This role will involve the successful candidate supporting the establishment of a Health Planning Unit in the Ministry of health, including design of functions of the unit, capacity building and mentoring national counterparts.  In addition the Planner will support the development of the South Sudan Strategic Health Plan, support directorates and State Ministries in developing their own strategic plans, and production of sectoral reports in preparation for strategy and annual budgets.  Working in collaboration with the client, the Ministry of Health (MOH) of the Government of South Sudan (GOSS), you will provide technical assistance to the Ministry at central and state levels. 

Job qualifications : You will have a post graduate qualification in public health, health planning, economics or similar field with demonstrated experience of planning and budgeting health programmes in support of Ministries of Health, preferably at national level.

Experience in post conflict countries an added advantage.  Good communicator and listener, able to interact and collaborate with partners from different technical backgrounds. Able to work under pressure, be creative in the providing options and potential solutions.

This assignment is urgent, immediate availability will be an advantage.

Job description : Within the Common Code for the Coffee Community Association (4C), producers, trade & industry and civil society from around the world work together for more sustainability in the entire coffee sector. This global community has joined forces to continuously improve the social, environmental and economic conditions for the people making their living with coffee. The 4C Association is managed by a secretariat of a dozen persons. The head office is located in Bonn, Germany, with regional offices in coffee producer regions. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Director Operations (f/m) to manage the operations of the 4C Secretariat.

Responsibilities

Under the general guidance of the Executive Board and direct supervision of the Executive Director, the Director Operations is responsible for the implementation, management, supervision and evaluation of all operational activities of the 4C Secretariat, including verification, administration and the regional offices in accordance with the standards and procedures set out by the organization. As member of the management, the Director Operations reports to the Executive Director and closely collaborates with the Director Support Services. He/she participates in strategic planning and budgeting initiatives within the framework given by the Council and Executive Board as decision making organs.

Tasks

Tasks include

- Managing and coordinating the processes and mechanisms of the 4C Association, including membership and financial administration, verification and licensing processes etc.;

- Managing of Human Resources at the 4C Secretariat in consensus with the Executive Director;

- Optimizing internal processes and work flows, especially with regard to the administrative integration of the Regional Offices (currently Uganda, Nicaragua, Brazil);

- Managing and steering of budget and finances of the not-for profit organization;

- Steering the further organizational development of the 4C Secretariat;

- Managing the internal coordination of the implementation of a data management system;

- Coordinating of 4C meetings and conferences (General Assembly, Council etc.).

Job qualifications : We expect candidates to have the necessary skills and managerial experience and seniority from similar positions. A balanced mix of leadership and team-orientation is required. Further requirements include:

- Professional knowledge and experience with not-for-profit membership organization operation and management and business processes;

- Skills in financial management, budgeting and controlling, including adequate experience of relevant tools to allocate resources consistent with the budget and strategy;

- Proficiency in small office communication and international environment;

- Experience in guiding and managing personnel in a team by providing leadership and individual motivation;

- Adequate knowledge in human resources management and organizational  development;

- Experience in sustainability aspects would be an added advantage.

Qualifications

- Degree in Nonprofit Management, (International) Business Administration, Organisational Development, Economics or Socio-Economics or comparable education;

- Analytical and results-oriented working approach;

- Ability to interact with stakeholders and team members of all ages and cultural backgrounds;

- Sound, current computer and small office management skills;

- Strong problem solving and team leadership skills;

- Effective oral and written communication skills including proper use of communication tools and technologies;

- Fluent in English and at least one additional ‘coffee language’ (French, Portuguese or Spanish);

German would be an added advantage;

- Passion for coffee!
