Within the 4C Association producers, trade & industry and civil society from around the world work together for more sustainability in the entire coffee sector. This global community has joined forces to continuously improve the social, environmental and economic conditions for the people making their living with coffee.  The 4C Association is managed by a secretariat of fifteen persons. The head office is located in Bonn, Germany, with regional offices in coffee producing regions. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Communications Manager (f/m) to intensify internal and external communication of the 4C Secretariat.

Tasks

• Revise and implement the communication strategy

• Guide, develop and coordinate all Public Relations activities including periodical 4C Publications and a broad range of flyers, brochures, reports etc. including the annual report

• Increase public knowledge and awareness of the 4C Association via press and media work

• Advance and maintain the homepage

• Identify and implement appropriate means to increase 4C’s awareness level and standing within the relevant target groups via Event marketing and Promotion

• Strengthen professional internal communications with 4C Members and the coffee community

• Provide communication assistance to the regional offices and to members of the Association regarding their 4C-related communication including Communication Guidelines and Corporate Design

• Coordinate all communication activities within the 4C Staff

• Steer and advise external agencies, designers, editors etc.

Job qualifications : Knowledge and Experience

• A university degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related fields

• Native English speaker or English equivalent to native speaker level, plus fluent in Spanish, Portuguese and/or French

• Sound working experience in communications, media work or marketing ideally in an international setting. Prior experience and knowledge of sustainability issues and/or coffee is desirable.

• Excellent phrasing, writing and editing skills

• Ability to plan, develop, implement and evaluate communications activities

• Excellent networking and interpersonal relations experience

• A results-oriented approach, positive thinking and good teamwork spirit

• Adequate IT skills

• A passion for coffee and sustainability

Camfed’s Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) unit supports data gathering and analysis in order to measure programmatic outcomes and communicate impact. The head office supports M&E units in national offices across Africa. Camfed is moving rapidly to transform reliance on paper-based data management to a fully integrated, virtual platform. 

The ‘Programme Manager – Information Technology & Data Analysis’ will support various data-related and monitoring/evaluation activities, including: input into the identification and development of data-gathering tools and a platform for analysis over the next 12 months, and then training, mentoring and supporting M&E and program professionals to make best use of these tools; managing and analysis of quantitative data for program monitoring, reporting and special research studies; writing and editing programme reports.

The Programme Manager will be a member of a 3-person ‘Impact team’ based at Camfed International in Cambridge UK, and will report to the ‘Executive Advisor – Impact’.

Specific Accountabilities:

·        Provide support for the piloting and scale up of a cutting edge, IT-based system for collection of monitoring data from remote sites in rural Africa.

·        Contribute to the design of databases and systems so that information can be transmitted from the field and analyzed in the most user-friendly way possible.

·        Manage and analyze data on programme outputs and outcomes, reviewing data on a quarterly basis.

·        Assess the quality of data, and perform high level data analyses.

·        Provide statistical support to action research studies including design of data management frameworks (e.g. using SPSS), sampling, and managing others to run data analyses.

·        Provide training and remote support to M&E Managers and Officers in national offices on tools and technologies for monitoring, and in data management and analysis.

·        Generate graphic presentations of data analysis using Excel and PowerPoint.

·        Contribute to the preparation of programme reports.

·        Other duties as required.

Job qualifications :

Essential:

·        Demonstrated understanding of networking and integrated IT solutions. 

·        Strong data analysis skills and direct experience in research, monitoring and evaluation.

·        Significant experience with both SPSS/STATA and Excel.

·        Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, technical documents, and proposals.

·        Excellent interpersonal skills to work with diverse staff across international offices.

·        Ability to conceptualise and lead capacity-building activities.

·        Availability to travel internationally (up to 10 weeks per year).

Desirable:

·        Experience of training people in IT processes remotely.

·        Exposure to monitoring and evaluation and international development.

·        Experience in designing and analyzing qualitative studies.

·        A Master’s degree in a relevant area (e.g. statistics, economics, social science or related field).
